PRP Accuses Kwankwaso of ‘Snatching’ 69 Party Forms in Kano, Threatens Legal Action
The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has accused Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the Vice-Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), of allegedly purchasing 69 nomination forms for various political offices in Kano State, allegedly creating chaos and uncertainty within the party.
Speaking at a press briefing held at the NUJ Press Centre in Kano, PRP State Chairman Abdulkadir Musa Guza claimed that he had travelled to Kaduna to participate in a party retreat and to obtain nomination forms for aspirants in Kano who had paid for them, only to be informed that the forms had already been purchased by someone else.
“I was told that somebody had purchased all the forms,” Guza said. “When I pressed hard to know who the person was, the national secretary of our party told me that it was Kwankwaso, and I asked why. They said we are in talks with him for his possible defection to our party.”
According to the PRP chairman, days passed without any indication that Kwankwaso would defect to the PRP. He alleged that the action appeared to be a “mischievous mission” against the party, noting that it was improper for someone to belong to one party while holding forms of another.
“We don’t know his missions, that is why we are telling every listening ear the situation,” Guza added.
The PRP leader expressed worry that hundreds of aspirants intending to contest under the party’s platform have been left in confusion and uncertainty about their political future.
He warned that the party would take legal action against Kwankwaso if he fails to surrender the forms before the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) closes the window for submission of candidates’ names.
“It is not only our party that is suffering this negative fate. Other parties are facing the same problems as us,” Guza stated.
The PRP has not yet provided further evidence to support its claims, and Dr. Kwankwaso or the NDC are yet to respond to the allegations.
