The Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Works and Infrastructure has condemned the alleged destruction of sections of the ongoing Ndiukwuenu-Awgbu Road project by land developers, warning that such actions could undermine the state's investment in critical infrastructure.
The committee raised the concern during an inspection tour of major road projects in Aguata Local Government Area on July 2 to assess the quality of work and the level of progress on government-funded projects.
Chairman of the committee, Engr. Emma Nwafor, described the reported activities of the developers, who allegedly used heavy equipment to damage portions of the road project, as unacceptable. He said the matter would be brought to the attention of the Anambra State Government for immediate action to protect public infrastructure from further damage.
Engr. Nwafor, commended the contractors handling the Ndiukwuenu-Awgbu Road project for maintaining high construction standards and delivering quality work.
The lawmakers also inspected the 3.5-kilometre link road connecting Igboukwu and Amichi, expressing satisfaction with the pace and quality of construction. Nwafor noted that the project is nearing completion, with a well-constructed carriageway, drainage channels, culverts, and other stormwater control structures already in place. He added that only a catchment area remains to be completed.
At the Akpo-Ogboji Road project, the committee confirmed that construction had been successfully completed, describing it as another significant achievement in the state's ongoing road infrastructure programme.
Speaking during the inspection, the member representing Aguata I Constituency, Hon. Emmanuel Anayo Okpalaeke, commended Gov. Chukwuma Soludo for addressing the infrastructure needs of the people through the execution of strategic road projects across the constituency.
According to Okpalaeke, the projects have improved transportation, stimulated economic activities, and contributed to the overall development of communities within Aguata I Constituency.
He added that residents, particularly those in Akpo, are pleased with the completion and steady progress of the projects, describing them as a clear demonstration of the Soludo administration's commitment to improving the welfare of the people through sustainable infrastructure development.
