 A teenage boy accidentally took the life of his best friend, then in a grief-stricken panic, turned the weapon on himself. A tragedy of unparalleled proportions took place inside of a home on Lincoln Avenue in Syracuse, New York, on the evening of June 24th. The evening would end with two devastated families and two young lives lost. 16-year-old Damarion Jones was hanging out with his long time best friend, 13-year-old Jonah Tanner. This was an everyday occurrence as friends and family described the two as "inseparable". Sadly, on this night, that bond would be proven to extend beyond life itself. Details on the circumstances leading up to the fateful event have not been made publicly available. However, the two youths had gained access to a 9 mm handgun. BREAKTHROUGH: VCRU, AKU, AND OTHERS RESCUE 2 KIDNAP VICTIMS UNHURT DURING JOINT OPERATION IN NINGI LGA


In furtherance of the mandate of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), the Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State Command, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, mni, psc (+), has directed the tactical unit to relocate to areas with recent cases of kidnapping and ensure the safe rescue of victims and the arrest of suspects.


In compliance with the CP's directive, operatives of the Command have successfully rescued two kidnap victims during a joint security operation conducted in Gwamnare Forest, Ningi LGA.


According to a situation report received at Ningi Division on 1st July, 2026 at about 1000hrs, a combined team of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), Anti-Kidnapping Unit (AKU) led by their respective Commanders, the DPO Ningi and team, and the Commander of Forestry Guards deployed by the Commissioner of Police, moved into operation through the Rafin Chiyawa axis to Gwamnare in Ningi LGA.


The operation was in response to persistent kidnapping incidents in Dogon Ruwa and Rafin Chiyawa Villages situated near Gwamnare Forest.


During the operation, the team successfully rescued two victims, namely:  

1.  Alhaji Yahaya, male, 50 years old, of Masallachi Hamlet, Dogon Ruwa Village  

2.  Alhaji Kabiru, male of Gwamnare Forest


Meanwhile, no casualty or loss of life was recorded during the operation.  


Furthermore, a search for the remaining victims is ongoing.


CP Sani-Omolori commended the bravery and professionalism of the joint team. He reassured residents of Dogon Ruwa, Rafin Chiyawa, and environs of the Command’s commitment to flushing out criminal elements from all forests in the State.
