 LAGOS EMPOWERS FISH FARMERS IN IKEJA DIVISION WITH TRAINING, EQUIPMENT  … Reaffirms Commitment To Building 21st-Century Economy As part of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu's commitment to advancing the T.H.E.M.E.S. Plus Agenda and positioning Lagos State as a 21st Century economy through the socio-economic empowerment of rural communities, the Centre for Rural Development (CERUD), under the Office of Rural Development in the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development, has commenced the 2026 Fish Farming Training and Empowerment Programme across the five divisions of the State. The programme, themed "Building a Resilient Socio-Economic Community through Youth Empowerment," commenced its first edition for the year at the Secretariat of Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government Area in the Ikeja Division.  "My mother is from Kansas. My father is an immigrant from Nigeria. He came to this country, built a life here, and they had me. Before this week, I never thought of my mother's citizenship as what made me American. I was born here, and that was always enough.


This week, that question was reopened for millions of Americans. Children born on this soil, to two immigrant parents, watched major factions of our own government try to strip away their citizenship. Those families are the very fabric of our nation. They are our teachers, our nurses, our neighbors. Their roots here run as deep as anyone's.


I am glad the Supreme Court affirmed what should never have been in question. But three justices were ready to let the President erase a founding principle of who we are. The preservation of birthright citizenship is not a reason to celebrate. It is a call to action. We have to fight to make sure the people who want to take it away never succeed."
