9-YEAR-OLD CALIFORNIA BOY LEADS POLICE ON A SHORT LIVED LOW SPEED CHASE WHICH ENDED NEXT DOOR TO HIS SCHOOL. (PHOTO).

9-year-old California boy leads police on a short lived low speed chase which ended next door to his school.

When officer Terry Dunn noticed a vehicle stopped in the middle of an intersection in Oroville, CA, he used his PA to tell them to move. Once he cleared the intersection he got in behind the vehicle and the chase began.

The driver fled through a gas station lot and into a vacant lot next to a local school before stopping and reversing into Dunn's Patrol car.

Officer Dunn exited his vehicle and began cautiously approaching the vehicle. This is when he noticed the perp had an "usually small head."

As he was assessing the situation, to his surprise a 9- year-old boy stuck his head out the car window and said, "I'm sorry, I was just trying to get to school."

After calling the school and the boy's parents it was confirmed he did indeed go to the school he had driven to and believed he was just trying to get there. He was eventually sent on his way to join his classes for the day.

There is no report on where the parents were when the car was taken, but no charges were filed. Although officer Dunn used it as an example of why you should keep car keys out of the reach of children. He also emphasized the importance of speaking to your children about the dangers of driving.
