 AU Commission Chairperson Arrives in Bamako to Revive Dialogue With Mali Mahmoud Ali Youssouf arrived for a two-day official visit, according to an AU statement. He was welcomed by Mali’s Foreign Minister Abdoulaye Diop and is also expected to meet with President Assimi Goïta, it said, Sputnik reported. The visit comes as Mali remains suspended from AU activities since June 2021. The AU has reaffirmed its support for Mali’s sovereignty and territorial integrity while proposing increased assistance to the security sector.

Cameroonian footballer Landry Nguemo dies in a tragic road accident


Cameroonian footballer Landry Nguemo tragically died on Thursday at the age of 38 in a road accident near Yaoundé. Nguemo, who scored three goals in 42 appearances for the Indomitable Lions, retired from football in 2020.


The accident occurred a few kilometers from Yaoundé when Nguemo's car, driven by his chauffeur, collided with a sand truck. Both Ng'uemo and his chauffeur died on the spot.


The president of the Cameroonian Football Federation and Nguemo's former teammate, Samuel Eto'o, expressed his sorrow on social media.


The Yaounde-born midfielder played 42 times and scored three goals for Cameroon between 2006 and 2014, winning a runners-up medal at the 2008 African Cup of Nations.


He spent most of his club career in France, starting as a 16-year-old at the academy of AS Nancy-Lorraine.


He graduated to the first team winning the 2006 French League Cup before leaving for Bordeaux.


Between 2011 and 2014, he played for the Girondins, winning the French Cup in 2003 before moving to Saint-Etienne in 2014.


After retiring, he returned to Nancy to work as a youth coach.
