 Russia launches massive drone and missile barrage on Ukraine, killing at least 18 civilians and striking Kyiv and multiple cities  Russia carried out a large-scale overnight assault on Ukraine, launching hundreds of drones and dozens of missiles that killed at least 18 civilians and wounded more than 100 others across multiple cities, officials said Tuesday. The strikes hit Kyiv, Dnipro and other regions, with emergency crews working through destroyed residential buildings where some victims were trapped under rubble. In Dnipro, rescuers recovered the bodies of a 3-year-old child and a mother and her 8-year-old son, while officials reported 12 deaths in the city and six in Kyiv. The bombardment stretched from night into daylight, with explosions reported across wide areas of the country.  Jigawa Government Reveals N5bn Loss in August 2024 Protests


The Jigawa State Government has reported a total loss of N5 billion in property damages during the nationwide protests of August 2024.


Bello Fanini, Chairman of the fact-finding committee on the protests, disclosed the figures while presenting the committee’s findings to Governor Umar Namadi at the Government House in Dutse.


Fanini detailed the breakdown of the losses, explaining that the Jigawa State Government incurred N2.8 billion in damages, while the Federal Government and its agencies lost N1.07 billion. Private individuals and businesses suffered losses of N707 million, local governments faced damages totaling N364 million, and the All Progressives Congress (APC) experienced losses of over N49 million.


The committee also made recommendations, including the need for the state government to compensate those who lost properties during the protests.


Governor Namadi thanked the committee for its efforts and assured that the government would carefully review the report and implement the suggested measures.


Recall that Governor Namadi had set up the fact-finding committee to investigate the causes of the August 1, 2024, protests in Jigawa State.
