Abia Govt Warns School Heads: Stop Illegal Fees or Face Dismissal The Abia State Government has issued a stern warning to school heads and principals, threatening dismissal for anyone found collecting unauthorized fees in public schools, in violation of the state’s free education policy. Information Commissioner Prince Okey Kanu, speaking after the weekly Executive Council meeting, reiterated that education is free from primary to JSS3, while students in SS1 to SS3 are only required to pay a reduced fee of ₦3,300. He emphasized that routine school expenses are now covered by government imprest funds, eliminating any excuse for illegal levies, and warned that offenders risk losing their jobs. ONANUGA SETS RECORD STRAIGHT: IBB INSPIRED TINUBU, NOT TORMENTED HIM. (PHOTO).

Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, has countered former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo's assertion that former military President Ibrahim Babangida tormented Tinubu during the military era. Onanuga insisted that Babangida was, in fact, a significant influence on Tinubu's political journey.

Osinbajo made the remark while reviewing Babangida's autobiography, A Journey in Service, at its public presentation in Abuja last week. He recalled Tinubu's resistance to the military's dissolution of the Senate following the annulment of the June 12, 1993, presidential election.

Onanuga clarified that Tinubu's real challenges with the military began under General Sani Abacha when he and some lawmakers attempted to reconvene the Senate in Lagos. He also commended Babangida's recent admission that Chief MKO Abiola won the 1993 presidential election, although he noted that such acknowledgment came too late.

According to Onanuga, Babangida's call for new-breed politicians in the late 1980s and early 1990s attracted several technocrats and private sector professionals, including Tinubu, into politics. "The military president had talked about bringing in fresh faces, and many professionals, including Tinubu, heeded that call. So, he went there (the book launch) to pay homage," Onanuga explained.
