Man allegedly admits to impregnating own daughter in Adamawa

A man in Adamawa State has admitted to sleeping with her own daughter and getting her pregnant.

The man, Jediel Sylvester, a resident of Ganye Local Government Area in southern Adamawa, told a court in which he was arraigned that lust propelled him into the act.

The Upper Area Court No.1, sitting in Ganye, presided over by Kabiru Musa, remanded the man at a correctional center after pleading guilty.

Sylvester was brought before the court after a direct criminal complaint was filed against him by his daughter and an uncle, Mohammed Audi through their Counsel, Abdulrahman Njidda who cited Section 111 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law Adamawa State 2018 for the move against Sylvester.

Audi, while explaining to the court that the defendant was married to his sister who gave birth to the victim, said the defendant took his daughter to a medical personnel after she complained to him that her menstrual flow had ceased.

Audi said the girl, upon being examined, was told that she was three months pregnant, after which her father, according to Audi, asked her to mention someone else as being responsible for it. He explained further that the girl declined, insisting that nobody else ever had sexual intercourse with her.

The defendant then allegedly suggested that the pregnancy be aborted but the girl, again rejecting her father’s wish, said it was too dangerous and inappropriate.

The girl, listed as the secomd complainant in the case, told the court that her father used to beat and intimidate her into having sex with him.

The defendedant is charged with incest, criminal intimidation and assault contrary to sections 367, 382, and 242 of the Penal Code Law of Adamawa State
