Mystery and speculation surround the death of a 12-year-old Michigan girl who reportedly died after slamming into a tree while running.

12-year-old Olivia Smith passed away on Tuesday, July 7th, while visiting a friend's house.

Ring Doorbell footage (pictured right) from 9:15 p.m. shows Olivia outside of her friends home. She can be seen walking out of the center frame towards the left, and only 6 short minutes later, Olivia was deceased. What happened during those crucial minutes is the big question.

The 911 call placed at 9:21 p.m. stated to dispatch that a "12-year-old female ran face first into a tree and was unconscious."

Life-saving measures were administered by first responders on scene. Sadly, their efforts were in vain, and Olivia was pronounced deceased a short time later.

Olivia's family does not believe she ran into a tree at all. However, they say they can't share more details due to the ongoing investigation. Her family has shared that she had a heart condition and they are fearful she was scared to death, literally. The family does not believe she ran into a tree.

Community members say that Olivia was being chased and in fear of physical violence. This caused the alleged fatal collision with the tree.

Authorities say that there are conflicting witness statements, and the death is still under investigation. Bay County Medical Examiner William Monroe calls the case "Atypical," and says "there are many things to study". He  continued, "We don't want to blame anyone. We want results based on science and medicine."

The Bay County Sheriff's Department is asking for anyone with any information regarding the investigation into Olivia Smith's passing to contact them at 1-989-895-4050.

Our thoughts are with everyone who loves this beautiful young girl and we hope the family receives clear answers about what happened to Olivia on that fateful night.

We will update.
