 ‘Empty barrels’ – Otti dismisses Uzor Kalu, Orji, Ikpeazu opposition gang-up Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has urged Abians to disregard recent remarks by some leaders of the opposition in the state. Governor Otti who was speaking on Saturday at Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Umuoriehi, Umuahia North LGA, during the dedication of the church building, said that those who are gathering against him were the same people that failed to develop the state in the past. Otti was reacting to an alliance formed against his re-election by former Abia governors Orji Uzor Kalu, Theodore Orji and Okezie Ikpeazu. The governor slammed the opposition members for pursuing personal interest above the collective development of Abia, declaring that every gathering they are making against him would collapse. - Kano elders have raised an alarm over the state government's insistence to collect Chinese loans - The elders said Governor Umar Ganduje wants to plunge Kano state into indebtedness which generations coming may not be able to bear - Coming under the auspice of Kano Unity Forum, the elders have called on President Muhammadu Buhari to intervene. Kano elders under the auspice of Kano Unity Forum (KUF) have written a petition against Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje over his insistence to take about N300 billion for a light-rail project. In a petition signed by former presidential aspirant and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bashir Tofa, which was directed to President Muhammadu Buhari, the Kano elders raised an alarm that Ganduje is taking to a path that may plunge Kano into internal debts. Legit.ng gathers that the petition was also addressed to the National Assembly, the office of debt management, and Federal Ministry of Finance. The elders argued that the loan is unnecessary and Ganduje’s light rail project is rather shrouded secrecy. Kano elders have raised an alarm over state government's insistence to collect Chinese loan. They warned that generations coming may find it difficult to bear the brunt of Ganduje's missteps, adding that at the time Nigeria is faced with financial difficulties, more social projects should be the priority of the government. The elders want President Buhari and concerned stakeholders in the Nigerian government to stop the current Kano government from plugging the state into multiple indebtedness.
