NPF CONDEMNS VIOLENCE IN AMAGBA COMMUNITY, LAUNCHES INVESTIGATION INTO FATAL SHOOTING OF MR. ISRAEL OGBEIDE

IGP Orders Heightened Police Presence in Conflict Zones

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) strongly condemns the recent violence in Amagba Community, Edo State, resulting in the tragic death of Mr. Israel Ogbeide. His body was discovered on October 19, 2024, at approximately 2:00 pm, bearing a fatal gunshot wound. Preliminary investigations suggest that this unfortunate incident is connected to a longstanding dispute between the Amagba and Obagie communities.

In response to this grievous occurrence, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has directed a thorough investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding the shooting and ensure that those responsible are swiftly brought to justice. The Nigeria Police Force is fully committed to restoring peace and stability in the affected areas while ensuring the perpetrators face the full weight of the law.

Contrary to misinformation circulating in certain quarters, the Nigeria Police Force wishes to clarify that operatives from the Force Intelligence Department – Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) and the Edo State Command's Department of Operations responded promptly to escalating tensions in the Oke Aroma area, which is associated with ongoing disputes. Upon arrival, our operatives found the community eerily deserted after extensive patrols. It is important to emphasize that the officers did not cross into either the Amagba or Obagie communities and have since maintained a consistent presence in Oke Aroma to prevent further escalation and ensure public safety.

It is equally pertinent to note that the deployment of police operatives is always guided by situational intelligence and operational requirements, not by external influence or pressure from individuals or groups.

The Nigeria Police Force urges all residents to remain calm and cooperate with the ongoing investigation. We appeal to anyone with information related to the death of Mr. Israel Ogbeide or any other relevant incident to come forward, as your assistance is crucial to ensuring justice is served and peace restored.
