 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. NIGERIA CUSTOMS SERVICE POSTPONES GALA/AWARD NIGHT IN HONOR OF THE LATE CHIEF OF ARMY STAFF 


1. The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) wishes to announce the postponement of its Gala and Award Night, initially scheduled for Friday, November 15, 2024, in Abuja. This decision is taken to allow Nigeria Customs Service identify with the mood of the Nation in mourning the late Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, whose legacy of service to our nation remains in our hearts.


2. The Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, conveyed deep condolences to the family of the late Lt. Gen. Lagbaja, as well as to his colleagues and the entire Nigerian Armed Forces. “Lt. Gen. Lagbaja was a leader of immense dedication and sacrifice. His contributions to Nigeria’s security and inter-agency cooperation are immeasurable,” said CGC Adeniyi. “We stand with the Nigerian Army, his family, and all Nigerians in honouring his memory and service.”


3. The Nigeria Customs Service acknowledges the weight of this moment, joining all who mourn the passing of a steadfast leader. 


4. ⁠The rescheduling of the Gala and Award Night allows us to pay our last respects to a man whose impact resonates across all security services and beyond.
