A member of the All Progressive Congress, Adamu Garba, popularly known for being vocal on political issues, has called for the declaration of a State of Emergency in Edo State. According to the post he made on his X account, this was necessary due to the killing of Hausa travellers on their way to celebrate Sallah. He wrote:
āIf there is any place that needed urgent state of emergency right very this moment is the Udune Efandion community of Uromi, Edo State. The butchers of that community MUST be held to account for killing innocent Hausa travelers. They were killed fasting , while on their way back home for Sallah holiday. Mr. Governor @m_akpakomiza should deploy all necessary measures and resources to ensure that those butchers are fished out and punished.ā
Adamuās post is in reaction to the crime that took place in Edo State. Report has it that 16 innocent travelers from Northern Nigeria lost their lives in the Udune Efandion community of Uromi, Edo State, after being falsely accused of kidnapping. This tragedy happened on Thursday, 27th March, as an angry mob took the law into their own hands, fueled by false claims.
Sources stated that the victims, primarily Hausa hunters, were en route from Port Harcourt to Kano for the Sallah festivities when they were intercepted around 1:30 p.m. by members of the Edo State Security Corps and local vigilantes. It gathered that it was the sight of their hunting guns used in the North that was misinterpreted as a threat, and triggered the action. According to reports, instead of signalling the police, the vigilantes raised a false alarm, which led to a myriad of chaos and violence.
The evil act, according to further reports, stated that it was local youths who attacked the travelers, which led to the deaths of 16 people on the spot. It was also reported that the mob set the truck ablaze, leaving some bodies trapped inside the vehicle.
Meanwhile, netizens have gathered beneath Adamu Garbaās post dishing out their takes. Some see that as some sort of revenge for the herder-farmer killing on the other part of the country. Some cried out on the fact that Hausas are taking the fall for Fulanisā action. Some others bluntly told Adamu that he was being selective in his cry for help, because there have been killings by herders and hunters in other states, he kept quiet, but only chose to talk when the northerners were at the receiving end of a similar situation.
