Somali World Cup Referee Denied Entry to United States Award-winning Somali referee, Omar Artan, has been denied entry into the United States despite holding a valid visa, according to a senior official in Somalia’s sports ministry. Artan, who is set to become the first Somali referee to officiate at the FIFA World Cup finals, was stopped at Miami International Airport and subsequently returned to Istanbul, where he had been residing. The reason for the denial was not immediately disclosed. However, Somalia is among the countries affected by a travel ban introduced by the administration of Donald Trump.  Former NFL quarterback Mark Sanchez arrested on felony assault charge

Former NFL quarterback and Fox Sports commentator Mark Sanchez was released from an Indianapolis hospital on Sunday and immediately booked on a felony battery charge following an altercation with a 69-year-old truck driver last week, according to local authorities.

The 38-year-old Sanchez was taken into custody at the Marion County Jail and faced three additional misdemeanor charges. While booking photos are typically held until Monday, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department released his image on Sunday, citing significant public interest. Sanchez has since been released from jail.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Oct. 4 while Sanchez was in Indianapolis with his Fox Sports team to cover a game between the Las Vegas Raiders and the Indianapolis Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium. Police said Sanchez allegedly confronted truck driver Perry Tole at a hotel loading dock over parking. The dispute escalated when Sanchez allegedly entered Tole’s truck, preventing him from calling for help, which led to a physical confrontation.

Court documents indicate Tole used pepper spray to defend himself and ultimately stabbed Sanchez, who suffered multiple stab wounds to his torso. Tole sustained a severe laceration to his cheek during the fight. Authorities described the incident as a “violent” and “unprovoked” attack. Tole has also filed a civil lawsuit against Sanchez and Fox Sports.

Sanchez’s lawyers previously secured permission for him to travel outside Indiana. His family released a statement expressing gratitude for the support they have received and noting that Sanchez is focused on his recovery as legal proceedings continue.
