Somali World Cup Referee Denied Entry to United States Award-winning Somali referee, Omar Artan, has been denied entry into the United States despite holding a valid visa, according to a senior official in Somalia’s sports ministry. Artan, who is set to become the first Somali referee to officiate at the FIFA World Cup finals, was stopped at Miami International Airport and subsequently returned to Istanbul, where he had been residing. The reason for the denial was not immediately disclosed. However, Somalia is among the countries affected by a travel ban introduced by the administration of Donald Trump. Plane crashes onto Massachusetts highway, killing 2 and injuring 1 bystander

A small plane crashed on a major highway in southeastern Massachusetts early Monday during heavy rain and strong winds, killing both people on board and injuring one person on the ground, authorities said.

Videos captured by passing drivers showed smoke rising above Interstate 195 from scattered burning debris. The highway was closed in both directions near the crash site in Dartmouth, roughly 50 miles south of Boston, according to the Massachusetts Department of Transportation.

State police said there were no known survivors on the plane, which may have been attempting to land at New Bedford Regional Airport. Officials noted that the pilot did not appear to have submitted a flight plan or passenger information. A National Transportation Safety Board spokesperson confirmed an investigation is underway, reporting that the aircraft, a Socata TBM-700, had departed from New Bedford. Authorities have not released information on the victims, pending notification of next of kin.

One person on the ground was taken to a hospital with injuries. At the time of the crash, the National Weather Service reported a nor’easter bringing rain and winds of 30 to 40 mph to the area. The FAA, which is expected to take over the investigation, said it could not respond to media inquiries due to the ongoing government shutdown.
