 NEMA COORDINATES SAR OPS AT THE SCENE OF BUILDING COLLAPSE INVOLVING A THREE STOREY BUILDING UNDER CONSTRUCTION AT GUDU AREA OF FCT At about 0945hrs on Saturday 16th May, 2026, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) was alerted of a building collapse at Gudu District of FCT.  Critical stakeholders including Federal Fire, FCT Fire, NSCDC, NPF, FRSC and Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) were activated while a response team of NEMA from the Abuja Operations Office led by the Head of Operations Mr Zakari Abubakar  and operatives from AYA Emergency Response Bay (ERAB) were deployed to the scene for quick response and coordination.  A reinforcement team  from NEMA Headquarters led by the Director Search and Response (DSAR) Air Cdre Bature Usman was also on ground to provide necessary backup and supervision.  Third Mainland Bridge set to fully reopen on April 4


The Lagos State Government has announced the imminent reopening of the Third Mainland Bridge on April 4, 2024, following extensive repair works.


The announcement was made by the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, via his official social media account on Saturday.


In a statement addressing Lagos residents, Osiyemi expressed gratitude for their patience and cooperation throughout the repair period. He conveyed the government’s commitment to ensuring smoother travels ahead for commuters.


The statement read, “Dear Lagos residents, We’re pleased to share that the Third Mainland Bridge will resume full operations on April 4, 2024, following extensive repairs. We sincerely thank you for your patience and cooperation, and we look forward to even smoother travels ahead.”


The decision to partially close the Third Mainland Bridge for repairs was initially announced by the Lagos State Government on January 5, 2024. Subsequently, repair works commenced on January 9, leading to temporary inconveniences for commuters.


With the upcoming full reopening of the bridge, commuters can anticipate improved traffic flow and enhanced transportation efficiency across Lagos. The government’s commitment to infrastructure maintenance and development underscores its dedication to ensuring the safety and convenience of residents and visitors alike.


As the Third Mainland Bridge resumes full operation, stakeholders are encouraged to continue supporting efforts aimed at enhancing the overall transportation network in Lagos State.
