Drama as two PDP governorship candidates receive Certificates of Return in Benue The leadership crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, deepened on Wednesday as two rival candidates for the 2027 Benue State governorship election separately received Certificates of Return from different factions of the party.  2027: I WON'T CONTEST BENUE NORTH-WEST SENATE WITHOUT CONSULTING GOD—EX-GOVERNOR ORTOM

The immediate past Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, has clarified that he has no current plans to contest the Benue North-West senatorial seat in 2027, stating that any future political decision would depend on divine direction.

The clarification follows widespread speculation on social media suggesting that Ortom was preparing for another senatorial bid. The former governor, who served between 2015 and 2023, had contested the same seat in 2023 but lost to Titus Zam.

In a statement released on Saturday by his media aide, Terver Akase, Ortom dismissed claims of a confirmed ambition, describing them as inaccurate.

The statement stressed that while Ortom is not actively seeking elective office, he would only consider such a move after “consulting God.”

Akase added that the former governor remains focused on supporting his party and contributing to governance through advisory roles rather than pursuing political office at this time.

“Ortom has no intention whatsoever to contest any elective office in 2027 at this time. He has said this clearly and repeatedly,” the statement noted.

“Any future decision to run for office would be based on consultation with God and the leading of divine direction.”

Ortom also appreciated supporters who reached out over the reports, assuring them that the claims of a definite 2027 candidacy were untrue.
