A woman who falsely accused a banker of rape has been jailed for six years.
Isabel Anonia Barbra Eudora Rose from Hackney, East London, was convicted of blackmail and perverting the course of justice after she demanded £100,000 from the UK banker she accused of rape.
The 26-year-old was sentenced at the District Court in Hong Kong on Wednesday, July 22, with Judge Adriana Noelle Tse Ching finding her guilty of blackmail and perverting the course of public justice.
She blew kisses and waved to her mum as she was led away, with Judge Adriana Noelle Tse Ching saying she had “not shown an iota of remorse for her wicked behaviour”.
The 26-year-old was handed her guilty verdict after a six-day trial in March, which laid bare her twisted plot.
Rose met the man she accused, known as X at the trial, while travelling in Thailand and flew to Hong Kong to meet him in 2024.
The pair spent the night of February 1 together, with Rose filing a false report that she had been r*ped in the days that followed.
Although the unnamed individual was initially arrested, he was reportedly released without charge.
In a shocking twist, Rose was then charged with one count of blackmail and one count of perverting the course of justice.
The court ruled the pair had “engaged in consensual intimate acts” that night.
It added that a medical examination carried out at the time “could not confirm or disprove whether s£xual intercourse had taken place”.
Days after the alleged assault, Rose asked the man for £5,000, which he sent, later demanding £100,000 while threatening to go to the police.
At the trial, Rose’s lawyer pleaded for leniency based on her clean criminal record and status as a foreigner.
But Judge Ching rejected the argument, saying it was “crystal clear” that she had demanded the money.
She described X as an “honest, credible and reliable witness”, whilst the Brit was labelled “dishonest, uncredible and unreliable”.
For the last two years, Rose has been stranded in Hong Kong, unable to leave or work there.
She was handed a starting sentence of five years for blackmail and three years for perverting justice.
One year is to be served consecutively, resulting in a total of six years in prison.
After the trial, Rose was sent to Tai Lam Correctional Institution – Hong Kong’s oldest maximum security women’s prison.
