A well-known TikTok influencer called out her husband to 50,000+ followers for being inappropriate with a 15-year-old girl. Sadly, she would pay with her life.
Sara Gilson, like countless other individuals who have found themselves the victim of their spouse's poor decisions, had taken appropriate steps to protect herself and her children. Sadly, like countless others, it didn't matter.
This incredibly sad series of events was set in motion when another female victim used her voice. A 15-year-old girl that Sara's husband, coached, went to authorities after Shawn Duffey began a creepy campaign to seduce her.
Sara's husband Shawn allegedly began sending the girl inappropriate messages, then quickly escalated to touching and attempting to kiss her. Finally, Shawn attempted to lure the girl into his hotel room during a tournament. When it became apparent that she was not interested and actually frightened and appalled, Shawn shifted gears and tried to pay her money to keep quiet.
The young girl wasn't going to be silenced that easily after what he had done to her. She went to the authorities and obtained an emergency protective order. The order of protection was filed on June 10th.
This was sadly the beginning of the end for Sara Gilson. Although she couldn't know at the time, her life was on a countdown that would reach its conclusion inside of her Owassa, Oklahoma, home on July 23rd.
Sara believed the victim, and cared.
When Sara learned of Shawn's perverse actions, she was shocked and angry. The relationship was essentially over, and she began the process of removing Shawn from her life. Like countless other women, Sara had to fight for her freedom, and the process was not easy.
Sara would ultimately be forced to file for a protection order of her own. She informed the courts of Shawn's behavior with the 15-year-old girl and went on to tell the judge that Shawn had a gun and was threatening self violence. The order was granted on July 11th.
Then came the TikTok video, where Sara told her followers exactly what was happening in her life. In the video, she called Shawn her soon to be ex-husband and referred to him as a p*do.
In just a few short weeks after the video, the countdown would come to its tragic conclusion on the night of July 23rd. On that evening, a 911 call was placed by Sara's son. In the background, during that call, a female can be heard screaming and crying, followed by a loud bang. Those sounds were the terrifying and heartbreaking last moments of Sara's life. When authorities made it to the home at 11:20 p.m. they discovered Sara deceased from a gunshot wound to the head.
Authorities would find Shawn close by, also deceased from a gunshot wound to the head. He did it to himself. The sad and unfair consequences of one man's bad decisions played out on a hot July night inside of the home of a victim who did the right thing... but lost her life for it. It's especially sad because we know at least one child witnessed it.
Our thoughts are with the children of Sara Gilson as they struggle to process the nightmare they were thrust into without their mom to guide them.
