Al-Mustapha Dismisses Ex-DSS Operative’s Claims on Abacha’s Death Former Chief Security Officer to the late Head of State, Gen. Sani Abacha, Maj. Hamza Al-Mustapha (retd.), has dismissed claims made by former Department of State Services operative, Dennis Amachree, regarding the circumstances surrounding the late military ruler’s death. Al-Mustapha described the account as false and urged Nigerians to disregard it. He spoke with journalists on the sidelines of the 3rd General Hassan Usman Katsina Memorial Conference held at Arewa House in Kaduna on Saturday. His reaction followed renewed public attention on Amachree’s memoir, The Shadow Warrior, in which the retired DSS officer reportedly detailed his account of the events leading to Abacha’s death on June 8, 1998.  LAGOS SETS CONTINENTAL BENCHMARK AT AUDA-NEPAD NIGERIA SUBNATIONAL ALIGNMENT MEETING IN KIGALI 


Lagos State has further cemented its reputation as a premier model for subnational governance, as representatives from the state played a pivotal role at the recent African Union Development Agency-New Partnership for Africa's Development (AUDA-NEPAD) Nigeria Subnational Alignment Meeting in Kigali, Rwanda.


The strategic gathering, held in partnership with the Federal House of Representatives Committee on Cooperation and Integration in Africa, brought together key stakeholders to harmonise national and subnational development frameworks with the African Union’s ambitious 


Representing the Lagos State Government at the event were Oluwatoyin Atanda-Rufai, Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Establishments and Training and Lagos State Coordinator for AUDA-NEPAD, and Mrs. Afsat Lawal, Monitoring and Evaluation Officer from the Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget.


Working in close collaboration with the Committee Chairman, Hon. Chief (Dr.) Billy Osawari, as well as various State Coordinators and Commissioners from across Nigeria. The Lagos delegation provided critical insights into integrating grassroots development goals with continental objectives.


The bilateral engagements in Kigali underscored the growing international recognition of Lagos State’s administrative prowess. Delegates from across the continent actively sought to study the state’s governance models, highlighting the effectiveness of the 

T.H.E.M.E.S+ Agenda, the Lagos State Development Plan (LSDP) 2052, and the Medium-Term Sector Strategy (MTSS)  


"Lagos State continues to prove that robust, long-term planning and disciplined execution are the keys to sustainable development," noted observers during the sessions. "The state's ability to align its localised development plans with the broader African Union agenda makes it a template for subnational administration in Africa."


The success of the Kigali meeting marks a significant milestone for Lagos State, reinforcing its status as a continental leader and an active participant in shaping the future of African integration and prosperity.
