As NDLEA intercepts tramadol pills in custard containers; bursts laughing gas warehouse in VGC Lekki; recovers 11,096kg illicit drugs in Edo, Borno, Ogun, Katsina raids Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, have intercepted various quantities of cocaine and opioids such as tramadol, pentazocine injection, morphine sulphate, ketamine injection, among others concealed in soles of shoes, clothes and other items being shipped to the United States, United Kingdom and Cyprus. Otti Launches Abia Cooperatives Support Scheme As 9200 Beneficiaries Receive Interest Free Loan  The Governor of Abia State,  His Excellency, Dr. Alex Otti will on Thursday 11th July 2024  commence the disbursement of Revolving Interest Free Loan to Nine Thousand Two Hundred (9,200) beneficiaries from across the 184 Wards of the State under the umbrella of the Abia State Cooperatives Support Scheme initiated by the Alex Otti led-government.  This first phase will see Fifty (50) beneficiaries each who have been selected  from the 184 Wards of the state receive the Revolving Interest Free Loan to assist them in their different businesses.  At least eight killed in shootout during Somalia prison breakout attempt At least eight people have been killed after gunfire erupted between security forces and inmates at a prison in Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu. The confrontation broke out on Saturday at the city’s main prison when armed inmates attempted to escape, prompting an exchange of fire that left five prisoners and three soldiers dead, said Colonel Abdiqani Khalaf, spokesperson for the Somali army’s custodial corps, Al Jazeera reported. “Violent elements tried to stir terror in the central prison,” said Khalaf. Eighteen other prisoners and three soldiers were wounded in the incident, he said. No prisoners escaped.  US election: Trump’s shooter identified as 20-year-old Thomas Cooks The gunman who attempted to assassinate former President Donald Trump Saturday has been identified, according to the New York Post. He has been identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks. One of Crooks’ bullets at Bethel Park grazed the former President in the ear during an outdoor rally in Butler, just outside Pittsburgh. Sources told the New York Post that Crooks was planted on a roof of a manufacturing plant more than 130 yards away from the stage at Butler Farm Show grounds. Cooks was shot dead by Secret Service snipers and an AR-style rifle recovered from him. Bethel Park is a village 40 miles south of where the Butler rally was held. Meanwhile, it remains unclear as to why Crooks attempted to assassinate Trump, who is the presidential candidate of the Republican party.
