 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. LASG DEPLOYS ENFORCEMENT OPERATIVES TO PREVENT RETURN OF SHANTIES,SQUATTERS ALONG OUTER MARINA,ONIKAN.#PRESS RELEASE.

     In order to sustain the dislodgement of squatters and illegal structures on Outer Marina and Onikan, the State Government has deployed not less than 60 operatives of the three enforcement agencies of the State to various points along Onikan and Outer Marina.
The latest move was made possible through the creation of a synergy between the operatives of Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (KAI), Lagos Neighbourhood Watch as well as Lagos State Parks and Gardens to sustain aesthetics in all the cleared areas.
Giving an update on the ongoing operations, the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tunji Bello stated that the buy-in of the Office of the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 2 at Onikan had been secured to sustain the effects of the enforcement exercise.
Bello said a large detachment of the operatives of KAI, Neighbourhood Watch and LASPARK will be deployed on a daily basis to man and patrol the listed areas and prevent a return of the environmental nuisance.
He requested that deployed teams with issues bordering on their safety or operations should call for reinforcement from their superiors, reiterating the commitment of the administration to ensure that there is no going back to the old, dirty, unkempt environment days along Outer Marina and Onikan.
Areas that have already been cleared and will be sustained in line with the directives of Governor Sanwo-Olu are the Onikan corridors including Police Zone 2 Office/Island Club, Race Course/Lagos Lawn Tennis Club and Outer Marina.
