HEALTHY LIVING: ANAMBRA DEPUTY SPEAKER SPONSORS AMAWBIA "WALK FOR LIFE",ORGANIZES FREE MEDICAL CHECKUP

The Anambra Deputy Speaker and Member representing Awka II constituency in the State House of Assembly, Chief Pius Okoye has sponsored the 4th Edition of Amawbia Walk for Life and organized free medical checkup aimed at keeping fit, fostering peace and unity.
The 5km endurance trek, which took off from Central School, Agu-Ogba field today, crisscrossing Nise, Works roads and Amawbia internal roads back to the starting point, had in attendance old and young indigenes and non indigenes as well as those who came home from The Diaspora.
In an interview shortly after the event, the deputy speaker noted that keeping fit and regular exercise guarantee the best health results of mind and body.
He said that Amawbia fitness walk is a continuous project. "We started it four years ago, it is non stop. Once there is life, it will continue.
"It is one thing that unifies Amawbia. As you can see, Amawbia people participated fully, both strangers living in the community were part of the exercise".
Speaking on the extraordinary Obizi Unity Cup that was organised at Umuanwulu, he said, "Not only that my mother was from Umuanwulu, there was a great son of Umuanwulu, late Chief Chukwudi Okafor, who was my mentor and God father. When he was alive, he was a good man and a great Philanthropist.
"He started this Obizi Unity Cup, the first person to start the tournament. He hosted it for more than five years so I now deemed it fit to host this year's 2023/2024 Edition in his name to remember the right person that started this Unity Cup, to show people that you don't forget the past.
"Though he was late, the wife and family were fully involved in this tournament, that was the main reason of celebrating it in his name, taking the event to Umuanwulu from the starting of the match to the ending so that Umuanwulu will know that their illustrious son was not forgotten..
Chief Okoye advocated for football tournament as a unifying event, talent building, physical fitness and revenue earner, emphasizing that through football, Anambra can produce Ronaldos and Messis that would earn money to help others.
The Deputy President General (DPG), Amawbia Community thanked Chief Okoye for annually sponsoring the event singlehandedly, noting that this year's walk was the best, hoping that one day, the walk will be combined with Carnival.
He noted that the deputy speaker has a large heart, explaining that not quite long, he toured round his constituency with packages to thank them for voting him en-masse for the second term.
While praying God to continue to lift Chief Okoye to greater heights, the DPG also prayed for lasting peace in Amawbia Town.
