 Trial begins of Central African ex-president Bozize over war crimes A UN-backed court in the the Central African Republic will on Tuesday begin the trial in absentia of former president Francois Bozize, over crimes against humanity committed between 2009 and 2013. The alleged crimes committed by members of Bozize's security forces include murder, enforced disappearance, torture and rape. Bozize, 79, who seized power in a 2003 coup before being overthrown 10 years later by rebels, has been living in exile in Guinea-Bissau since March 2023. But three of his former senior military officers, Eugene Barret Ngaikosset, Vianney Semndiro and Firmin Junior Danboy, are all in pre-trial detention in the Central African Republic.  Commercial bus driver sets Edo traffic agency personnel ablaze


A commercial bus driver has set an officer of the Edo State Traffic Management Agency (EDSTMA) ablaze, the agency’s management says on Friday.

It was gathered that the driver of the bus marked Osun FFE145XA beat the traffic light at Adesuwa Junction, along Sapele Road and was stopped by traffic personnel.

The driver, who is said to be at large at the time of filing this report, was said to have resisted arrest.

When he was finally arrested, a personnel was said to have been directed to take the vehicle to the office of EDTSMA.

Report had it that on the way to the EDTSMA office, the driver stopped the vehicle, stripped himself naked, took a keg of petrol from his vehicle, poured it on the EDSTMA official and set him ablaze.

The spokesman of EDSTMA, Roland Owolabi, confirmed the incident to our Correspondent on phone.

Also, a video on social media with the pictures of the vehicle and a personnel speaking to what looked like a phone camera, said: “The driver committed a traffic offence, and officers of Zone 2 Enforcement Team apprehended him and asked him to gently take the bus to the base but he refused, he resisted arrest and started fighting everyone.

“At the end of the day one of the officers was asked to take the bus to the base, the driver brought out petrol, got himself naked, poured the petrol on the officer in the bus and set him ablaze as we speak the officer is receiving treatment in a hospital here in Benin City. The bus driver is on the run.”

The personnel called on the public to release any information about the driver or the owner of the bus to the EDSTMA office or report it to the nearest police station.
