The Taraba State Police Command has arrested a woman for allegedly burning her step-grandson’s lip with a hot knife.

It was gathered that the incident occurred in the Wukari Local Government Area of the state.

Chinecherim Julius was brutally assaulted by his grandfather's wife, who burned his lips, leaving him with severe injuries.

Confirming the arrest, the Senior Assistant on Media and Publicity to the Chairman of Wukari LGA, Ibrahim Audu Angyu, said, "It is beyond comprehension how a person can harm a child in such a brutal manner."

Angyu stated that the heinous act committed by the woman, who reportedly cut off the boy’s lips with a hot knife, is a gruesome and inexcusable act of violence that should be condemned in the strongest possible terms.

He said, "We applaud the decisive action taken by the Executive Chairman of Wukari Local Government Council, Hon Dauda Agbu Samaila in ordering for the arrest of Chinecherim Julius' grandfather wife.

"This shows that no one is above the law, and justice must prevail no matter the circumstances. The chairman's intervention in ensuring that Chinecherim Julius received medical care and that the perpetrator (grandfather wife) was brought to justice is commendable and sets a strong example for others in positions of authority.

“The safety and well-being of children should be a top priority for all members of society, and it is our collective responsibility to protect them from harm.”

He noted that acts of violence against children, such as what happened to Chinecherim Julius, cannot be tolerated or brushed aside.

"We must all work together to create a safe and loving environment for all children to thrive and grow," he said.
