The Osun State Government has cleared over ₦1 billion in outstanding debt owed to healthcare providers under the Osun Health Insurance Agency (OSHIA) within the past year.
Speaking at the agency’s Annual Performance Review and Strategy Retreat in Ada, Osun State, on Monday, OSHIA Executive Secretary, Dr. Razaq Akindele, said the debt settlement was essential to maintaining seamless healthcare services.
“We inherited over ₦1 billion in liabilities, including unpaid fees to healthcare providers and 13 months of outstanding capitation to health centers,” Akindele disclosed.
“Clearing this debt was my top priority, and I can now confirm that we have settled all outstanding payments.”
He further highlighted the agency’s steady growth under the new administration and reaffirmed its commitment to delivering quality healthcare to enrollees.
Commitment to Affordable Healthcare
The Chairman of the OSHIA Board, Dr. Muyiwa Oladimeji, stated that the retreat was designed to reinforce the agency’s dedication to providing affordable healthcare under Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration.
Osun State Head of Service, Mr. Ayanleye Aina, also reassured that the government remains committed to supporting OSHIA.
According to him, all civil servants in the state are now required to enroll in the health insurance scheme.
“We are taking necessary steps at the MDA level to encourage participation. In fact, enrollment in the scheme is now mandatory for all civil servants,” Aina added.
