Anambra State Government Embarks on Anthrax Vaccination Campaign,  Calls for Intensified Efforts to Safeguard Lives and Livestock

The Anambra State Government, in collaboration with the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (LPRES), has launched a 13-day statewide vaccination campaign against anthrax. This critical initiative spans all 21 local government areas (LGAs) of the state.

Dr. Basil Ejidike, the Director of Veterinary Services in the State Ministry of Agriculture, led the vaccination team. Speaking during the exercise at Isiagu Community, Dr. Ejidike emphasized the significance of this campaign in combating anthrax—a zoonotic disease that poses serious health risks to both humans and livestock.

"Anthrax is a severe threat to public health and livestock.  Through this vaccination campaign, we aim to raise awareness, mobilize resources, and ensure proactive intervention to prevent an outbreak. Protecting livestock farmers and minimizing risks are our top priorities," Dr. Ejidike  said.

The campaign focuses on vaccinating cattle, sheep, and goats against the disease, with the goal of building a healthier and more resilient state free from anthrax. Dr. Ejidike highlighted that success requires unity, timely action, and sustained effort. "Together, we can create a safer environment for future generations," she affirmed.

Dr. Ejidike extended his gratitude to the state government, the LPRES project, veterinary professionals, and community members for their support in eradicating anthrax from the state.

This initiative underscores the government's commitment to safeguarding both human lives and livestock, fostering resilience within Anambra communities.
