The Governor of Imo State, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma, has emphasized the crucial role of a strong and efficient police force in sustaining Nigeria’s democracy. Speaking at the 2nd Edition of the Nigeria Police Award and Commendation Ceremony in Abuja, Governor Uzodimma commended the efforts of security agencies in maintaining peace and order across the country.
“Democracy can only thrive if our police force is strong, and it can only be protected if our security agencies are empowered and efficient,” he stated while addressing a gathering of dignitaries and senior officers at the event.
Governor Uzodimma commended the resilience and dedication of the Nigeria Police Force and other security outfits, noting that their commitment has significantly contributed to national stability. He cited improvements in Imo State’s security situation as a testament to the growing effectiveness of law enforcement efforts, following a previously challenging period marked by unrest.
He called on the Federal Government and the National Assembly to prioritize increased funding for the police and other security agencies, highlighting the need for better operational capabilities. “While we look to the federal authorities for enhanced support, citizens must also show solidarity and provide moral encouragement,” the Governor urged.
In his concluding remarks, Governor Uzodimma encouraged the police to remain professional and intensify their efforts in safeguarding Nigeria’s democracy, underscoring the importance of their role in the nation’s development and peace.
