Lagos police launch investigation as jeweller  accuses its officers of harassment The Lagos State Police Command said it has commenced an investigation into a viral video of a jeweller accusing some policemen in the Festac area of the state of harassing him.  The command disclosed this in an X post on Saturday. The video, which circulated on X on Saturday morning, shows the businessman engaged in a struggle with some policemen. Later in the video, the businessman could be seen with a bloody face after allegedly sustaining a cut beside his right eye during the struggle with the police officers,  The jeweller later explained that the policemen from the Festac Division had stopped him for a routine search.  Ndume Clarifies Misrepresented Claim as Buratai Denies Attack in Borno


Senator Ali Ndume, representing Borno South, has clarified that his recent comments about an alleged attack on former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai (retd), were misinterpreted. Ndume’s statement, made during a Sunday interview, was misconstrued to suggest that Buratai, who shares his name with Buratai town in Biu Local Government Area, was personally targeted by insurgents.


In the interview, Ndume raised alarms about worsening insecurity in Borno State, stating, “We are in a dire security situation. Just two days ago, Buratai was attacked at the front operations base in Borno. Some soldiers responded gallantly, but the insurgents managed to destroy several military assets.” The comment was mistakenly interpreted as an attack on the former army chief, who served as Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff from 2015 to 2021 and played a key role in the country’s counterinsurgency efforts.


On Monday, Ndume clarified that he was referring to an attack on a military base in Buratai town, not on the person of Lt. Gen. Buratai. The former army chief, who hails from the same town, also denied any personal attack, confirming that no such incident occurred involving him.


The clarification comes amid heightened concerns over escalating insurgent activities in Borno State, with Ndume emphasizing the urgent need to address the region’s security challenges.
