16th February, 2026
Hon. Asortar James, Special Assistant on Social Media to Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has rejected an alleged ₦5 million bribe from Hon. Akutah.
In a statement, James said the offer was delivered through Akutah’s lawyer, along with a letter and an agreement requiring him to acknowledge receipt of the money.
“I cannot and will not betray my brother and leader, Governor Alia. My loyalty is unwavering,” he said, stressing his commitment to integrity and the values of public service.
James recalled similar offers he turned down in the past, including a multimillion-naira proposal in October 2022 and another from the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation on Christmas Day 2024.
He assured that he will continue to act in the best interest of Benue State and remain steadfast in his support for Governor Alia.
