 Petroleum Marketers Urge Nigerian Government to Sell Warri, Kaduna Refineries The Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN) has called on the Nigerian government to privatize the Warri and Kaduna refineries.   In a statement titled “Retrospect of Nigeria’s Oil and Gas Downstream Sector in 2024,” PETROAN emphasized that transferring ownership of the 125,000 barrels-per-day Warri Refinery and the 110,000 barrels-per-day Kaduna Refinery to reputable private firms would enhance efficiency and reduce government expenditure.   The association urged the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to prioritize this move to bolster the downstream oil sector in 2025.   Additionally, PETROAN requested a N100 billion intervention fund to support filling stations struggling with the economic impact of fuel subsidy removal, warning that without it, 10,000 marketers risk closure.   The call for privatization coincides wit...

 Account for missing N825bn, $2.5bn for refinery repairs, SERAP tells NNPCL The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has urged the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mele Kyari to “account for and explain the whereabouts of the alleged missing N825bn and $2.5bn meant for ‘refinery rehabilitation’ and other oil revenues, as documented in the 2021 annual report by the Auditor-General of the Federation.” SERAP said the annual report was published on Thursday 27 November 2024. SERAP urged Kyari “to identify those suspected to be responsible for the disappeared oil money and hand them over to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).” SERAP also urged him “to formally invite former president Olusegun Obasanjo to tour Nigeria’s refineries and to extend your invitation to the EFCC and ICPC to monitor the operations of the ...

 Prof. Nuhu Yaqub's death a big loss to Nigeria The family, colleagues, and associates of Prof. Nuhu Yaqub, former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Abuja, have described his death as a significant loss to Nigeria and humanity. Yaqub, who also served as the pioneer Vice-Chancellor of Sokoto State University, passed away on Saturday in Abuja after a brief illness at the age of 73. He was laid to rest at Gudu Cemetery in Abuja, with many attending to pay their final respects. Until his passing, Yaqub served as Chairman of the Academic Advisory Board of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS).
