Embattled Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau says he will resign after new party leader chosen Justin Trudeau has said he intends to step down after nine years as Canadian prime minister in the face of a mounting set of crises, leaving office once a new ruling party leader is chosen. “I intend to resign as party leader, as prime minister, after the party selects its new leader,” the 53-year-old leader told reporters at a news conference in Ottawa on Monday. “I care deeply about this country and I will always be motivated by what is in the best interests of Canadians. Severe Winter Storm Threatens the US: Heavy Snow, Freezing Temperatures, and Disruptions

A massive winter storm is sweeping across the United States, bringing dangerously cold temperatures and heavy snowfall to tens of millions of people. Triggered by the polar vortex, this extreme weather is expected to affect the central and eastern parts of the country, including states like Kentucky, Virginia, and parts of the South, which are unaccustomed to such severe cold. AccuWeather predicts this could be the coldest January since 2011, with temperatures well below average for an extended period. Cities like Washington DC, Philadelphia, and Baltimore are bracing for snow and icy conditions, while blizzards and treacherous driving conditions will impact the Midwest and central US.

The storm has led to a state of emergency in several states, with warnings of potential power outages and travel chaos. In the South, severe thunderstorms are also anticipated, adding to the threat. Airlines, including American, Delta, and Southwest, are offering fee waivers as the storm could cause widespread flight disruptions. Forecasters caution that the combination of snow, freezing rain, and extreme cold will create hazardous conditions, with some areas expected to experience up to a foot of snow.
