The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has taken a swipe at his political detractors, accusing them of switching parties repeatedly since 1999 while highlighting the transformative projects under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration. Speaking at the commissioning of the Ushafa/War College Road in Abuja, Wike boasted that the FCT’s achievements are unprecedented and visible to those “with eyes.”
“Let those who don’t have vision, let those who are politically expired, let those who, since 1999, have belonged to over 10 political parties, see what we are doing,” Wike declared. He emphasized the ongoing success of the FCT administration, noting that President Tinubu has commissioned projects for five consecutive days, with the streak set to reach 16 days by Friday. “Wherever they are, whichever channels they watch, they will see Mr. President commissioning projects every day,” he added.
Wike praised the contractor for the Ushafa/War College Road, stating he personally supervised the project with unprecedented diligence. Vice President Kashim Shettima, representing President Tinubu at the event, commended Wike for transforming Abuja’s satellite towns, noting that the projects are opening up economic opportunities and creating jobs. “We are not just building roads, we are building capacity,” Shettima said, urging other leaders to emulate the FCT’s example in fostering national unity and development.
The commissioning was attended by three former G-5 governors—Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), Samuel Ortom (Benue), and Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia)—highlighting the event’s political significance. Wike’s remarks come amid ongoing political realignments, with opposition coalitions adopting new platforms to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.
