 Sudan urges displaced citizens abroad to return home Sudan has called on all displaced citizens living abroad to return home, as the government steps up efforts to facilitate voluntary repatriation and remove barriers facing returnees. Prime Minister Kamil Idris said his office is committed to easing the return process and ensuring citizens can actively contribute to rebuilding the country, state media SUNA reports. Speaking during a visit to the Ashkeit border crossing in Wadi Halfa, Idris said authorities have taken steps to eliminate illegal levies and ensure that returning citizens are not subjected to additional fees, compulsory charges or arbitrary customs duties. He noted that such practices had previously placed an unnecessary burden on citizens without benefiting the state.  Pastor locked behind bars, with the keys thrown into the sea following multiple rape incidents


On 31 July 2025, the Naphuno Magistrate Court in Maake, Tzaneen, sentenced 39-year-old pastor Confidence Monyela to multiple terms of imprisonment, including two life sentences, for the rape of several minors aged 14 to 17. The crimes, committed between 2016 and 2017, have led to a ruling that has effectively locked Monyela behind bars with no prospect of release.


Monyela, who was 31 at the time of the offenses, lured his victims to his church under the pretense of evening spiritual sermons. After praying with the minors, he raped them and threatened them with divine retribution, claiming the “Holy Spirit would kill them” if they spoke out. 


He then drove the victims back to their residences to maintain the facade of normalcy.

In August 2017, one courageous victim confided in a social worker, who alerted the victim’s parents. This led to the Maake police opening five rape cases. The Tracking Team swiftly apprehended Monyela within the precinct. 


Sergeant Klaas Mulungwa of the Tzaneen Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offenses (FCS) Unit led the investigation, which culminated in the court’s decision.

Initially granted R15,000 bail, Monyela’s freedom ended on July 31, 2025, when the court delivered its verdict:


•  Count 1 - Rape: Life Imprisonment

•  Count 2 - Rape: Life Imprisonment

•  Count 3 - Rape: 10 Years

•  Count 4 - Rape: 10 Years

•  Count 5 - Rape: 10 Years

•  Count 6 - Sexual Assault: 5 Years


Per Section 280 of Act 51 of 1977, the sentences for counts 3, 4, 5, and 6 will run concurrently with the life imprisonment imposed in Count 1, ensuring Monyela remains incarcerated for life. Additionally, the court declared him unfit to possess a firearm.


The ruling has brought closure to the victims and their families, while sending a strong message against sexual violence, particularly by those in positions of trust.

 How Suspected Phone Snatchers Killed Army Lieutenant In Kaduna  An army officer identified as Lieutenant IM Abubakar has reportedly been hacked to death by a gang that specialises in phone snatching and other crimes. The deceased was killed in the Unguwan Sarki area of Kaduna metropolis during the week. A popular counter-insurgency expert and security analyst in Lake Chad, Zagazola Makama disclosed this in a Twitter post. Makama described Abubakar as a talented officer.  He said, “Lt IM Abubakar(Isa) A Young Talented Army Officer Was Killed By Phone Snatchers on His Way Home In Unguwan Sarki, Kaduna. May his soul rest in peace.”
