Ugandan parliament authorises army deployment to Gaza Uganda’s parliament approved a motion authorising the government to deploy troops to Gaza as part of the International Stabilization Force (ISF). Defence and Veterans Affairs Minister Kiryowa Kiwanuka introduced the motion seeking parliamentary approval to deploy Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) personnel following an invitation from the US. “Uganda has a strong army with capable organisational structures, which have enabled Uganda to successfully support peace operations in Somalia, South Sudan, the Central African Republic, and various UN peacekeeping missions,” he said. Israel has approved the limited entry of forces from countries it considers friendly. Irreversible political process Some lawmakers warned that deploying the UPDF to Gaza could raise diplomatic concerns because Uganda and Palestine are members of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

Perez Hilton’s family says he is able to communicate after medical emergency as recovery continues

Perez Hilton's family has shared a positive update on his condition, saying he is able to communicate as he continues to recover in hospital.

In a statement published on his blog on August 5, the family thanked people for their prayers, messages and support, describing the past few days as emotionally difficult while expressing hope about his recovery.

The family said they had confirmed Hilton was communicating and asked for continued privacy, understanding and support as they await further updates.

The update follows an emergency response to Hilton's home on August 4 after viewers became concerned during one of his TikTok livestreams. Authorities later confirmed that he was taken to hospital under Florida's Baker Act, which allows a person to be held for evaluation if they are considered at immediate risk of harming themselves or others.

TikTok said its automated moderation system flagged the livestream for review. The platform said a moderation error delayed its removal, but it also notified law enforcement. The account was later deactivated and subsequently banned for violating the platform's community guidelines.

A representative for Hilton had not publicly commented beyond the family's statement.
