 Guinea-Bissau's president sacks prime minister Guinea-Bissau's President Umaro Sissoco Embalo has sacked Prime Minister Rui Duarte Barros, AFP reported. Embalo has not explained the reason for firing Barros, a member of the African Party for the Independence of Guinea and Cape Verde (PAIGC), which is the country's opposition. Barros had served as head of government since December 2023, when Embalo dissolved the opposition-dominated parliament following armed clashes the president branded an attempted coup. Braima Camara, a member of Embalo's ruling Madem G15 party, will replace Barros as prime minister. Barros's sacking comes four months ahead of a presidential election that Embalo has fixed for November 23.

 Central African Republic to hold general election on December 28, 2025 The Central African Republic will hold its general election, including the presidential ballot, at the end of December 2025, the electoral authority said, AFP reported. President Faustin Archange Touadera had, in late July, announced he would seek a third term. According to the published schedule, the CAR's citizens will go to the polls on December 28 for the first round of the presidential and parliamentary elections. Voters will also cast ballots in the regional and municipal elections, long delayed by issues with the electoral roll and funding. More than 2 million voters By the authority's count, some 2.3 million voters are expected at the ballot box, of which 749,000 will have been freshly enrolled. First elected president in 2016, Touadera regained the post in 2020. In recent years the security situation in the Central African Republic has improved.

 M23 says 'not received' invitation to attend Doha talks with DRC officials The M23 rebel group has not received an invitation to peace talks with the Democratic Republic of Congo scheduled to begin in Doha on Friday, its leader Bertrand Bisimwa told reporters, Reuters reported. M23 rebels seized eastern DR Congo's largest city Goma in late January as part of a rapid advance that has given them control of more territory than ever before. US President Donald Trump's administration has mediated talks between DR Congo and Rwanda that Washington hopes will produce a sustainable peace.  EFCC Arrests 11 For Alleged  Internet Fraud in Lagos  Operatives of the Lagos Zonal Directorate 2  of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC,  have arrested 11 suspected internet fraudsters in Lagos. The suspects are: Tony Efe Ebafua, Azubike Kelvin Chukwuka, Osawea Joshua Tobechukwu, Raymond Tochukwu Kennedy, Ejike Collins Nwigbo and Adedeji Festus Olusegun. Others are: Harrison Chinaza Agha, Odigie Ireme Emmanuel, Osarobo Ehigiator, Godwin Mensha and Ajah Simon. They were arrested on Thursday, August 7, 2025 during a sting operation at Tulip Heaven, Chevron, Lekki, Lagos State, following credible intelligence on  the activities of some individuals suspected to be involved in computer-related fraud.  Atiku Condemns Arrest of Sowore, Labels It a "Shameful Abuse of Power" Former Vice President and presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has vehemently criticized the recent arrest and alleged brutal treatment of activist and publisher Omoyele Sowore by operatives of the Inspector-General of Police Monitoring Team, describing the incident as a “shameful abuse of power.” In a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja, Atiku expressed dismay over what he termed a blatant violation of democratic principles and human rights.  STATEHOUSE PRESS RELEASE ( Re-issued) PRESIDENT TINUBU NOMINATES  CEO, TWO COMMISSIONERS FOR NERC President Bola Tinubu has nominated  Engr. Abdullahi Garba Ramat as the new Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC). Engr Ramat, 39, is an electrical engineer and administrator, with a PhD in Strategic Management, among other qualifications. President Tinubu also nominated two commissioners for the NERC.  They are Mr Abubakar Yusuf, Commissioner of Consumer  Affairs and Dr Fouad Olayinka Animashun, Commissioner of Finance and Management Services.  All nominations are subject to Senate confirmation.
