Shehu Sani backs calls for FRSC personnel to bear guns A former Senator, Shehu Sani, has thrown his weight behind the call for personnel of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to bear firearms. However, he opined that only those on the federal highways outside the city should be trained and given firearms. Recall that the Federal Road Safety Corps has harped on the need for its personnel to bear firearms in discharging their duties, considering the level of security challenges across the country. The Corps Marshal, Dauda Biu, made this call on Saturday while inaugurating 1,762 corps personnel who just concluded their four-month introductory course at the Nigerian Army Training Centre (NATRAC), Kontagora, Niger. Anaocha TCC Warns Against Indiscriminate Dumping of Refuse at Nwagu, Agulu By Ginika Oguji The Transition Committee Chairman (TCC) Anaocha Local Government Area, Mr. Ikechukwu Ozoh has warned the people against dumping of refuse on council's unapproved sites.  He gave the warning during the inspection tour of refuse dumps which has taken over parts of the Nwagu, Agulu road at the popular Nwagu junction, in Agulu, Anaocha LGA. The Chairman during the inspection tour, noted that the refuse are dumped at night, assuring that the council has reinforced Anaocha task force that will now engage in round the clock monitoring and anyone caught dumping refuse indiscriminately at the junction will be dealt with accordingly. Customs Seize 20 Containers Of Expired Tomato From Spain The Port Terminal Multiservice Limited, PTML Command of Nigeria Customs Service, has seized 20 containers of expired tomato imported from Spain and falsely declared as containing almond shells. The Acting Comptroller General of the Nigerian Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, said the seizure was made at Lagos port. ”We have successfully intercepted and detained a staggering 20 containers filled with expired tomato concentrate, an unprecedented event since the inception of this command.” The head of the Nigerian Customs Service described the seizure as ”remarkable” and a ”historic milestone” in the history of the agency. The seizure was made nearly two months ago, but officials only disclosed it on Friday while giving updates on customs operations in recent weeks. AU Seeks end to Israeli-Hamas war The African Union (AU), has expressed ”utmost concern” over the latest outbreak of Israeli-Palestinian violence. Chairperson of the AU Commission Moussa Faki Mahamat said in a statement that it has ”grave consequences” for the lives of civilians and regional peace. ”Denial of the fundamental rights of the Palestinian people, particularly that of an independent and sovereign State, is the main cause of the permanent Israeli-Palestinian tension,” he said.
