BRAKE FAILURE CITED AS CAUSE OF ACCIDENT INVOLVING SECURITY OFFICERS IN ABIA- FRSC. (PHOTO).

  The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Abia State Command, Ngozi Ezeoma, has confirmed the death of one security personnel in a single vehicle road traffic collision that occurred on 30th March, 2025, involving a vehicle from the joint task force of Operation Crush, at Isieke along the Umuahia-Bende road. According to Ezeoma in a statement, the accident was caused by brake failure. The vehicle veered off the road and fell into a ditch, leaving eight officers with varying degrees of injury. The injured officers were rushed to the Federal Medical Centre in Umuahia by the Police before the arrival of the FRSC. Unfortunately, the deceased officer was taken to the mortuary. The wreckage of the patrol van has since been recovered from the ditch.

 WTO Reappoints Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala for Second Term as Director-General


The World Trade Organization (WTO) has reappointed Nigeria's Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala as its Director-General for a second term, effective September 1, 2025.


The announcement was made by the WTO on Friday via a post on X. The General Council confirmed the reappointment after reaching a consensus, recognizing Okonjo-Iweala's exceptional leadership and strategic vision for the organizationā€™s future.


The reappointment process, which began on October 8, 2024, was led by Ambassador Petter Ƙlberg of Norway, Chair of the General Council. With no other nominations received by the November 8 deadline, Okonjo-Iweala was the sole candidate.


During a special General Council meeting on November 28-29, 2024, Okonjo-Iweala presented her vision for the WTOā€™s future. Following her presentation and a Q&A session, the Council formally endorsed her reappointment.


The General Council commended Okonjo-Iweala for her outstanding leadership, particularly in navigating global economic challenges and achieving significant milestones at the 12th and 13th Ministerial Conferences.


Okonjo-Iweala first took office as WTO Director-General on March 1, 2021, becoming the first woman and the first African to hold the position. Her first term is set to conclude on August 31, 2025.
