Basketball Hall of Famer and NBA legend Don Nelson dies at 86 Don Nelson, a Basketball Hall of Famer, five-time NBA champion as a player and one of the league’s most influential coaches, died Sunday morning surrounded by his family. He was 86. Nelson’s family said he died peacefully after spending his final week surrounded by loved ones, friends and family members who shared memories of his life and career. A standout player at the University of Iowa, Nelson was selected 17th overall by the Chicago Zephyrs in the 1962 NBA Draft. He joined the Boston Celtics as a free agent ahead of the 1964-65 season and spent 11 seasons with the team, averaging 11.4 points and 5.2 rebounds per game. He won five championships with Boston, and the Celtics retired his No. 19 jersey in 1978. Nelson moved into coaching after a 14-year playing career.  Former Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, says he has never been intimate with any other woman since he married his wife, Sherifat. The national secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), stated this while speaking at a recent rally in Ejigbo LGA, ahead of the Osun State gubernatorial election. Aregbesola said his fidelity was part of a personal test he set for himself, adding that his devotion is solely to God. He noted that his stance is not common among many men, and that he had used it as a basis for a divine request. “Oh Lord my God, if you are the one I am serving, and I did not add any other thing to it. What I am about to say, only a few men can say it: Because of your fear, I never had any intimacy with another woman since I married my wife,” Aregbesola said.

 PRESIDENT TINUBU URGES RELIGIOUS LEADERS TO SPEAK AGAINST INSECURITY President Bola Tinubu has called on religious leaders to take a stronger role in the fight against terrorism, kidnapping and banditry in Nigeria and across Africa. At the Kano Grand Maulud of Sheikh Ahmad Al-Tijani, President Tinubu, represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, urged religious leaders to consistently speak against violent extremism and promote peace. He also called for stronger peace education and moral guidance for young people, describing the Tijjaniyya community as an important partner in countering violent extremism across the Sahel and West Africa. The President paid tribute to the late Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi and reaffirmed the Federal Government's commitment to regional security, dialogue and peaceful coexistence. The Maulud attracted Islamic scholars and dignitaries from Algeria, Morocco, Senegal, Egypt and other countries.

 NIS DEPLOYS PASSPORT INTERVENTION TEAM TO CLEAR UK APPLICATION BACKLOG The Nigeria Immigration Service is deploying a dedicated Passport Intervention Team to the United Kingdom to facilitate the processing and issuance of pending, new and renewal passport applications for Nigerians in the country. In a statement, the Service Public Relations Officer, Akinsola Akinlabi, says the intervention, directed by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, is scheduled to commence on August 10, 2026, in collaboration with the Nigerian High Commission in the UK. The statement says the team will visit designated cities across the United Kingdom to conduct passport enrolment and processing. The exercise is open to applicants with pending applications, new applicants, and holders of passports with less than one year to expiry who wish to renew.  Wisconsin parents are facing charges after their 3-week-old baby passed away due to meth use while breastfeeding.  Authorities were called to a Trimbelle, Wisconsin home on March 14th after a couple of new parents found their 3-week-old baby boy unresponsive.  When authorities entered the home of 23-year-old Jessie Kittelson ( mother)  and 26-year-old Taylor Olson (father), they found the couple's infant, appearing pale and blue. The report went on to say the child had a "dark substance" around the baby's mouth and nose. Paramedics on scene quickly checked the baby's vital signs and could not find a pulse. Life-saving efforts were immediately initiated.   Sadly, despite their determined efforts, the baby boy could not be revived.  An investigation was launched, and the cause of death was determined as "Methamphetamine toxicity".
