ONE ARRESTED FOR CULPABLE HOMICIDE AND UNLAWFUL POSSESSION OF FIREARM IN UNGUWAR  ANGAS, BAUCHI

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested one suspect in connection with a case of culpable homicide and unlawful possession of a locally made firearm that occurred in Bauchi metropolis.  


Accordingly, the report was received at 'A' Division Township, Bauchi, on 19th July 2026 at about 2030hrs, from a  47-year-old man of Unguwar Ngas, Bauchi LGA.  


The complainant stated that on the same date at about 1900hrs, while at Unguwar Ngas, Inkil, Bauchi, one Clement Anthony, male, 40-years-old, of the same address, armed himself with a locally made single-barrel gun and intentionally fired it at Mr. Jacob Bature, male, 55-years-old Mai Anguwan Ngas, also of the same address. The victim sustained serious gunshot injuries to his right ribs and slumped unconsciously, which left him in a state of coma.  


He was immediately rushed to ATBU Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, where a medical doctor examined him and confirmed him dead as a result of the gunshot. The corpse has since been deposited at the hospital morgue for further investigation.  


Following the incident, police operatives swung into action and arrested the suspect. During the arrest, the locally made single-barrel gun and one empty cartridge were recovered from him.  


The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) Bauchi for discreet investigation. The suspect will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigation.  


The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, mni, psc (+) has condemned the act and assured members of the public that the Command remains committed to ensuring that perpetrators of violent crimes are brought to justice. He further urged citizens to desist from unlawful possession of firearms and to promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
