 Malian army withdraws from key Tessalit military camp: sources Mali’s army and its Russian mercenary allies have surrendered Camp Tessalit, a strategic military post in the north, multiple sources told the AFP news agency on Friday. An official from the Tuareg-led separatist group claimed soldiers and mercenaries at the camp had "surrendered", following a fierce fight over the weekend. Simultaneous attacks in Mali by militants linked to Al Qaeda and separatist Tuareg rebels on April 25 showed how fighters ​from different groups with different goals were able to strike at the heart of the West African country's military government. Gunfire and explosions were reported in the capital Bamako and around a large military base outside the capital, as well as Gao and central areas, as gunfire continuing in the northern city of Kidal.  CORPS COMMANDER ORDNANCE CONDUCTS ASSESSMENT VISIT TO OPERATION FANSAN YAMMA


The Corps Commander Ordnance conducted an assessment visit to Headquarters Joint Task Force Operation FANSAN YAMMA (HQ JTF OPFY) on Thursday 27 February 2026, where he was received by the Deputy Theatre Commander, Air Vice Marshal UK Abdullahi on behalf of the Theater  Commander  , alongside principal staff officers and other senior officers at the Headquarters.


During the visit, the Corps Commander was conducted round to assess the state of ordnance equipment, maintenance structures and overall logistics support to troops engaged in ongoing operations. He commended the troops for their resilience, professionalism, and commitment in sustaining operational tempo despite prevailing challenges.


The senior officer emphasized the critical role of effective ordnance support in enhancing combat efficiency and operational success. He assured personnel of continued support from the Ordnance Corps to ensure availability and serviceability of equipment and platforms deployed in the theatre.


In his remarks, the Deputy Theatre Commander, Air Vice Marshal Abdullahi, appreciated the Corps Commander for the visit, noting that such engagements boost morale and strengthen coordination between operational and logistics components of the theatre of operations.


The assessment visit was of  part of ongoing efforts to enhance operational effectiveness and ensure seamless logistical backing for Operation FANSAN YAMMA in the North West theatre.
