 Northwest University Debunks Claim Emir of Kano Sanusi Attended Lecture To Clear Carry-Over

Northwest University, Kano, has dismissed a viral claim that the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, attended a lecture at the institution to clear an alleged academic carry-over.

The university described the claim as false, baseless and misleading in a disclaimer dated August 10, 2026, issued by its Public Relations Officer, Abubakar Ibrahim, and published on its Facebook page.

The institution said it had observed the circulation of a video showing Sanusi after attending a public lecture organised by the International Humanitarian Law Society at the university.

According to the university, some social media users subsequently attached captions to the video claiming that the Emir had a carry-over and visited the institution to resolve the alleged academic deficiency.

The university, however, categorically denied the claim and urged members of the public to disregard the video and accompanying reports.

“The Management of Northwest University Kano (NWUK) has observed with concern a viral video clip of His Highness, Khalifa Muhammadu Sanusi II, PhD, CON, after attending a public lecture of International Humanitarian Law Society.

“It was an event held at Northwest University, Kano, which someone posted; while others added write-ups circulating on various social media platforms, falsely claiming that the Emir of Kano has a carry-over and that he approached the University to clear him of the alleged academic deficiency,” the statement said.

The university stressed that it had no connection with the claims attached to the video, describing them as “entirely false, baseless, misleading, and without an iota of fact whatsoever.”

NWUK urged members of its community and the general public to rely on official channels for verified information about the university and its activities.

It also warned individuals against creating, publishing or circulating what it described as false and defamatory content.

The institution said anyone found to be involved in producing or circulating the video alongside the alleged false claims would be reported to the appropriate authorities and prosecuted in accordance with applicable laws.

“The public is urged to rely only on official communications from Northwest University Kano for accurate and verified information concerning the University and its activities,” the statement added.
