 Ebola death toll in DRC exceeds 2,000 More than 2,000 people have died of Ebola virus in the Democratic Republic of Congo since its outbreak in mid-May, health authorities said on Tuesday amid fast-spreading infections. The Health Ministry situation update report showed that confirmed cases have reached 4,381, including 2,011 deaths. The overall case fatality rate stands at 45.9%. The epidemic has affected 53 health zones in five provinces: Haut-Uele, Ituri, North Kivu, South Kivu, and Tshopo. Ituri remains the epicentre of the epidemic caused by the Bundibugyo virus strain, with sustained transmission.

 NPF MOURNS TEN OFFICERS KILLED IN LINE OF DUTY IN KEBBI; SUSTAINS OPERATIONS AGAINST BANDITS The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the loss of ten gallant Police personnel during an encounter with a heavily armed group of suspected bandits along the Rafin Makuku axis of Sakaba Local Government Area, Kebbi State.  Salary hike: Tinubu should ensure direct transfer for military – Ndume Former Senate Leader, Ali Ndume, has commended President Bola Tinubu for approving salary increases for about 250,000 personnel of the Nigerian Armed Forces, saying the move will go a long way to boost the morale of troops. President Tinubu last week approved salary increases of between 30 and 80 per cent for military personnel. The new rates take effect next month. With the adjustment, the annual wage bill for the Armed Forces will rise from N660 billion to N924 billion. Officers above the rank of colonel -brigadier-generals, major-generals, lieutenant-generals and generals – will get 30 per cent increase. Those from colonel down to warrant officer will get 50 per cent, while personnel from private to staff sergeant will get 80 per cent.  U.S revokes over 175,000 Visas under Trump over Crimes and Immigration violations The United States has disclosed that it has revoked more than 175,000 visas issued to foreign nationals under President Donald Trump's administration for allegedly violating visa conditions, committing crimes, or posing security threats.   The US Department of State (DoS) said in a statement that the majority of the visa revocations followed “law enforcement encounters involving criminal activity, with assault, driving under the influence, theft and drug-related offences among the leading causes.”   It added that visas were also revoked over “reckless driving, sexual assault, child abuse, fraud, embezzlement and other crimes.” According to the department, the revocations were carried out through its continuous vetting operations designed to ensure that visa holders comply with the terms of their visas and do not pose a threat to Americans.   It said some of those whose visas were revok...

23-year-old Nigerian Law School student dies at Lagos campus The Nigerian Law School has confirmed the death of 23-year-old Faith Ajoke Alayande, a student of the Lagos Campus in Victoria Island. Alayande was reportedly found dead within the hostel premises on Friday, August 7, 2026, after she allegedly fell from the rooftop of the four-storey hostel building. According to the Lagos State Police Command, a note believed to be a suicide note was reportedly discovered by her hostel mate and a relative, who had been searching for her. The matter was subsequently reported to the Victoria Island Police Division. Researchers from Boston Children’s Hospital and more than 20 medical research centers in the United States and Canada studied 1,154 people hospitalized with COVID-19. Over the course of a year, researchers analyzed more than 200,000 biological samples from the patients.  Two school custodians found fatally shot inside Chicago elementary school Two school custodians were found shot to death Monday inside Mark Twain Elementary School near Chicago’s Midway International Airport. Chicago police said officers discovered two adults unresponsive inside the school Monday afternoon.
