 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. Two Policemen Killed As Gunmen Attack Another Checkpoint In Imo

Unidentified gunmen have again attacked a police checkpoint located at Okpala Junction along Owerri/Aba Road, Ngor Okpala council area of Imo State one month after they killed five policemen and husband and wife at the same junction.

The incident, which happened early hours of today, Saturday 20th May 2023, left two policemen dead and many others injured, our correspondent gathered.

An eyewitness who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the gunmen came in numbers and opened fire on the police officers who were on road-block morning stop-and-search duty.

A traveler who passed through the road confirmed to our correspondent that two police officers were killed while he saw one who was injured.

He said; “I saw the liveless body while coming to work this morning. Two killed and one injured inside police van”.

As of the time of filing this report, teams of policemen were drafted to the area

Efforts to speak with the police spokesperson in Imo State command, Henry Okoye, to confirm the incident proofed abortive as of the time of filing this report.

Also, text messages sent to his known phone number were not responded to.
