Senate President Godswill Akpabio has appealed to the people of the South East to sustain peace and prevent their youth from engaging in armed struggle against the Federal Government. Akpabio made the plea on Saturday during the funeral of Sir Albert Ikechukwu Nnamani, former Administrative Secretary of the defunct Oil Mineral Producing Area Development Commission (OMPADEC), held in Ikem, Enugu State. In a statement made available to journalists in Abuja, Akpabio emphasised that development can only thrive in a peaceful atmosphere and urged Ndigbo to properly mentor the younger generation. “For Ndigbo, I want to plead with you to continue to maintain the peace and watch the youth of today. They don’t understand politics. They don’t understand development. You can only have development in an area of peace,” Akpabio said.  Court Sentences Ex-Accountant-General Nwabuoku To 72 Years In Prison For N868m Fraud 


A Federal High Court In Abuja Has Convicted And Sentenced Former Acting Accountant- General Of The Federation, Anamekwe Nwabuoku, To 72 Years Imprisonment For Money Laundering.


The  Presiding Judge, Justice James Omotosho Gave The Order On Monday Having Found The Defendant Guilty In A Nine – Count Charged Filed Against Him By The Economic And Financial Crimes Commission


Justice Omotosho Held That The Economic And Financial Crimes Commission  Has Proved Its Case Against Nwabuoku.

Nwabuoku Was Arraigned On A Nine-Count Amended Charge Bordering On Money Laundering And Fraud To The Tune Of 868 Million Naira.

He Was Granted Bail In The Sum Of N500 Million With Two Sureties In Like Sum.

Nwabuoku Was Convicted On All Nine Counts And Sentenced To Eight Years’ Imprisonment On Each Count, Amounting To A Cumulative 72 Years.

The Court, However, Ordered That The Sentences Run Concurrently.

Omotosho Described Nwabuoku’S Diversion Of Funds Meant For Security And Defence, While Serving As Director Of Finance And Accounts At The Ministry Of Defence, As “Appalling”.

The Judge Also Commended The Efcc For What He Described As A Meticulous Prosecution Of The Case.
