James McAvoy made a striking appearance alongside his wife, Lisa Liberati, as the couple stepped onto the red carpet for the premiere of his directorial debut, California Schemin’.
The Scottish actor looked relaxed and proud as he arrived at the Odeon Luxe in Leicester Square on Wednesday, with Lisa by his side. James opted for a sharp black suit, while Lisa turned heads in a shimmering silver sequined top paired with black flared trousers.
The outing comes shortly after James revealed that he and Lisa quietly welcomed their son, a family update that had remained private for the past four years.
Opening up about becoming a father again later in life, James admitted that parenting in his forties feels very different from his first experience.
The actor, who also shares 15-year-old son Brendan with ex-wife Anne-Marie Duff, said fatherhood now comes with a calmer mindset.
According to him, he worries less than he did the first time around and approaches parenting with a more philosophical outlook.
At the same time, he admitted there is another side to it.
Being older, he said, also means having less energy and feeling more tired while balancing the demands of work and home life.
James also reflected on the challenge of juggling fatherhood with filmmaking, revealing that during production he often woke up in the early hours of the morning with the project still racing through his mind.
He described that intense work ethic as something often associated with younger years, when long nights and relentless effort feel easier to sustain.
James and Lisa are based mainly in London, though they also spend time in Philadelphia, where Lisa’s family is from.
The couple first met while working on the set of Split, where James starred and Lisa worked behind the scenes as a production assistant.
Their relationship later became public, and they eventually tied the knot in 2022.
The premiere also marked a major milestone in James’ career as he introduced California Schemin’, the first feature film he has directed.
The film tells the true story of a rap duo from Dundee who posed as Americans in a bid to break into the music scene.
Despite his excitement for the project, James recently admitted that directing the film was far from easy, describing the process as deeply demanding.
Still, the premiere night carried a sense of celebration, both professionally and personally, as the actor stepped out with his wife after sharing the quiet joy of their growing family.
