A mother of three just trying to make extra money delivering for Door Dash suffered a vicious attack during a delivery... for honking.
Christen Phillips was out attempting to provide for herself and her three children on the evening of August 1st when she fell victim to a horrific attack.
While making a delivery in a Jacksonville, North Carolina neighborhood, Christen arrived at an intersection behind a vehicle being driven by 44-year-old Stanley Shockley.
For an unknown reason, Stanley was not pulling away. After Christen had patiently waited for what she considered to be an appropriate amount of time to not seem rude, she gave her horn a honk. This action would serve as the spark that would ignite a rage within Shockley.
However, initially it seemed like the honk had simply snapped him back into the present. He pulled away from the intersection, and Christen went along her way.
She arrived at the address and walked up to the home, and delivered the homeowner's order. As she turned and began the walk back to her vehicle, she had no idea her night was about to erupt into violence and pain.
Stanley Shockley had followed Christen and was now about to make her pay a heavy price for honking at him.
Stanley quickly closed the distance with a wooden bat. As Christen was arriving at her driver's side door, he launched into an attack on Christen.
Christen does not remember anything that followed. She says that she regained consciousness sometime later; bloodied and confused. In an unbelievable display of grit and determination, the mother of three was able to drive herself to a nearby hospital.
Doctors at the hospital would discover the full extent of the injuries that Stanley Shockley had caused as a result of her honking.
Christen had fractured cheekbones, multiple skull fractures, and brain bleeds. Doctors also reported that Christen had cerebrospinal fluid mixed with blood leaking from her ear. They were astonished that she drove herself to the hospital.
Authorities were notified, and an investigation into the violent attack began. Detectives with Onslow County Sheriff's Department identified Stanley Shockley as the suspect, and he was taken into custody.
Stanley Shockley is being charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.
