RUSTLING: POLICE ARREST TWO SUSPECTS OVER POSSESSION OF STOLEN CATTLE AND ATTEMPTED BRIBERY IN ALKALERI LGA
The Bauchi State Police Command wishes to inform the general public of the arrest of two suspects in connection with possession of stolen property and attempted bribery in Alkaleri Local Government Area.
On the 6th August, 2026 at about 0800hrs, two complainants from Yalo Village, Alkaleri LGA, reported at Alkaleri Divisional Headquarters that some of their cattle, numbering 103, were rustled by unknown gunmen in July 2026 at Yankari Forest to unknown destination.
Acting on the report, operatives proceeded to Mararaban Liman Katagum, where the complainants identified three of their missing cows. Following the identification, a traditional leader in the area assisted in the arrest of two suspects:
1. Abdullahi Adamu, 26-years-old, and
2. Muktashir Idris, 20-years-old, both of Jarmai Village, Dangi LGA, Plateau State.
They were brought to the Division on 7th August, 2026 at about 1545hrs. During interrogation, Muktashir Idris confessed that he was sent by his master, one Alaba of the same address, to sell the stolen cows. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the said Alaba.
In the course of investigation, a brother to one of the complainants,, disclosed to the Police that the said Alaba had sent ₦400,000 to compromise the case. The money was recovered as an exhibit. The said brother had earlier promised to assist in arresting Alaba but failed to do so.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, mni, psc (+), has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for discreet investigation. The suspects will be charged to court upon completion of investigation.
The Command reiterates its commitment to tackling cattle rustling and all forms of criminality in the State. Members of the public are urged to report suspicious activities to the nearest Police Station.
