Magistrate Orders 10 Strokes of Cane for Bus Conductor Who Slapped Passenger in Kaduna A Kaduna Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday sentenced a 20-year-old bus conductor, Abubakar Shehu, to 10 strokes of the cane for assaulting a female passenger over a dispute about transportation fare. Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel delivered the judgment after Shehu pleaded guilty to the charge of assault. The magistrate said the court had been lenient because the convict admitted the offence and did not waste the court’s time. He warned Shehu to refrain from similar conduct in future, stressing that the court would not treat such behaviour lightly again. Emmanuel also ordered the convict to write an undertaking to be of good behaviour. Prosecutor Inspector Chidi Leo told the court that the offence occurred on July 24 at Kawo in Kaduna. A MICHIGAN MAN GAVE HIS LIFE, ASSURING HIS WIFE'S SAFETY, WHEN A RELAXING SUNDAY ON THE LAKE TOOK A TRAGIC TURN.(PHOTO).

 A Michigan man gave his life, assuring his wife's safety, when a relaxing Sunday on the lake took a tragic turn.


61-year-old John Gagnon and his wife were enjoying a peaceful Sunday afternoon on Wycamp Lake in Emmet County when a boat malfunction would change everything. 


While the couple were navigating the waters of Wycamp Lake, their jon boat began to take on water. The situation quickly worsened to the point that the boat capsized, dumping both John and his wife into the water. 


John immediately switched into protective mode and began assisting his wife to shore. The lake is known for not being deep with just 7 feet being the deepest part. Unfortunately, at some point as the two were making their way to shore, John's wife suddenly realized he was no longer guiding her. 


She began to frantically scan the water, but there was no sign of John anywhere. As the reality of her situation began to sink in, she had a stroke of luck when a kayaker noticed her in the water. 


The Good Samaritan made their way over to her and helped her get to the shore.


A short time later, John was found  unresponsive, the details on who found John are not specified. However, Sheriff Matt Leestein confirmed that Good Samaritans desperately rendered life-saving measures until EMS arrived. 


Sadly, all efforts were in vain, and John was pronounced deceased on the scene. 


The defining detail that literally made a life or death difference in this incident was the fact that John's wife was wearing a floatation device while he was not. 


Regardless, John gave his life for his wife and she is devastated by his loss. 


Our thoughts are with the family and friends of John Gagnon as they attempt to navigate a world without him.
